According to a recent report from market research firm Dell'Oro Group, the global broadband access equipment market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 2% over the next five years (2024-2028). This is partly due to lower spending in 2024 as operators across the region continue to digest excess inventory, with Tier 1 cable operators significantly slowing their procurement of new DOCSIS CPEs.
"Most service providers have taken a conservative approach to 2024, opting to rely on existing inventory as they face mixed market signals across inflation, consumer spending and new home construction. 2025 is expected to be a year of rebound in spending, driven by continued fiber network expansion and Cable DAA upgrades. “
Other highlights of the five-year forecast for broadband access and home networks include:
● PON equipment market revenue is expected to grow from $11.1 billion in 2023 to $12.9 billion in 2028, driven primarily by XGS-PON deployments in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA), as well as FTTR and 50 Gbps deployments in China.
● As operators continue to advance DOCSIS 4.0 and early fiber deployments, revenue from Cable distributed access devices (virtual CCAPs, remote PHY devices, remote MACPHY devices, and remote OLTs) is expected to peak at $1.2 billion in 2027.
● The fixed wireless CPE market revenue is expected to reach $2.6 billion by 2028, primarily driven by growing shipments of 5G sub-6 GHz devices and 5G mmWave devices.
● With the rapid adoption of Wi-Fi 7 technology by consumers and service providers, the Wi-Fi 7 home router and WLAN-enabled broadband CPE market revenue will reach $8.4 billion by 2028.
