AWS re-Invent Conference: Will AWS be a challenger for telecom operators?

The 10th annual AWS re-Invent conference will be held in Las Vegas from November 29th to December 3rd. This world's leading technology company's every move during the conference attracted the attention of the entire IT industry.

Following the first day of AWS' AWS 5G network, AWS released AWS Cloud WAN products on the third day of the conference to facilitate multinationals building and managing global networks.

Like all AWS services, CLoud WAN services can be accessed through the AWS unified service interface. IT experts can configure the network at this interface, including access to all branch offices, data centers, and Amazon Virtual Private Cloud VPCs. In the future, AWS users will be able to access AWS' global network via a VPN or direct-connected network. Based on AWS Cloud WAN, customers can easily build their own SD-WAN. Based on this service, AWS presents higher challenges to existing network operators.

But AWS doesn't want to be defined as a competitor to telecom operators that quickly. Anoop Dawani, the company's product manager, has positioned telecom operators more as partners. He told Kerralava that AWS Cloud WAN users can continue to use the original telecommunications network, and they are simply uninstalling, connecting backups, and so on to take advantage of AWS services. The AWS platform provides a "introduce your own service provider" model that not only manages its own network, but also serves as an interface to the carrier network.

While this is true in the short term, as Dawani says, in the long run, AWS is sure to grab market share from telecom operators. This model AWS is already very skilled, they like to let customers have a variety of options on their platform, such as call center field, Talkdesk, Genesys and Vonage are running on AWS Cloud, but AWS own products will be better.

For many telecom operators with monopoly positions, it is worth watching how to respond to AWS's cooperative posture. The reality is that AWS has jumped into the networking industry and is constantly innovating to improve service reliability and flexibility.
