50G PON Switch prototype - First launched by ZTE

At the 2022 Mobile World Congress, ZTE released the world's first accurate 50G PON prototype, which is of great milestone significance for promoting the exploration of 50G PON application scenarios, as well as the development of 50G PON technology and the maturity of the industrial chain.


ZTE's precision 50G PON prototype released this time has ultra-wide, low latency, low jitter and other precision features to meet the needs of home/enterprise ultra-high bandwidth access, mobile xHaul and campus deterministic networks. In terms of bandwidth, it supports single-wavelength bandwidth up to 50Gbps, which is 5 times higher than the 10G PON technology that has been deployed on a large scale. By providing hard-sliced time slot pipes, it supports the bandwidth access requirements with adjustable range of 2M-10Gbps to meet the requirements of accurate bandwidth regulation. In terms of low latency, the time slot optimization innovation of PON technology reduces unnecessary time slot overhead, and shortens the transmission delay at a distance of 10 km from 1.5-2.5 ms to less than 200 μs. In terms of jitter, through the time-sensitive scheduling technology, the jitter in the millisecond level is reduced to the nanosecond level, which effectively meets the requirements of users for application scenario expansion, bandwidth quality improvement, service quality and experience improvement.



ZTE has been paying close attention to the standard formulation and continuous improvement of next-generation PON technology, and has launched the pre-research work of the next generation of PON technology after 10G PON many years ago, accumulating a lot of experience and achievements in optical devices, chips, etc., such as achieving breakthroughs in ultra-high-speed TIA and DSP. Up to now, ZTE has submitted more than 30 50G PON standard proposals, and many proposals in physical layer parameters, low latency, FEC and other aspects have been adopted by the standards organization.
