According to the latest report from market research firm Dell'Oro Group, the revenue of the point-to-point microwave transmission equipment market fell by 8% year-over-year in the first quarter of 2024. The market contraction was mainly due to the rapid deceleration in mobile wireless deployments during the quarter.
Jimmy Yu, vice president of Dell'Oro Group, said, "This has been a difficult quarter for the microwave transmission equipment market. Several regions of the world have seen market slowdowns, with only two regions having positive year-over-year growth. These regions are North America, the Middle East, and Africa. Due to the sharp slowdown in mobile networks, we have lowered our growth forecast for the full year of 2024 to just 1%. We remain confident that market conditions will improve over time, but we now expect the market environment to be much weaker than initially anticipated in the first half of 2024. ”
Other highlights of this Q1 2024 Quarterly Report on the Microwave Transmission and Mobile Backhaul Market include:
· The microwave transmission market declined year-over-year in the first quarter of 2024 due to reduced demand for mobile backhaul. Revenue related to mobile postbacks was down 11% year-over-year in the quarter.
· Among the major regions where microwave devices are deployed for wireless backhaul, India saw the largest decline, down 50% compared to the same period last year.
· Four suppliers (Aviat, Ceragon, Huawei, and ZTE) achieved revenue growth in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year. Aviat and Ceragon benefited from acquisitions to close by the end of 2023.
